Book orders and returns

  • Q: I ordered / reserved a book from the stacks before the Central Library closed. Can I pick it up?
    • A: No, this will become possible as soon as the Central Library is open again. Your book will be ready for you to pick up for five working days after the Library has opened again.
  • Q: Can I order books from the stacks now?
    • A: You can send an order, but it will not be processed. Please order them again once the Central Library is open.
  • Q: Can I place subito or inter-library loan orders?
    • A: Not for the time being. Please do so once the Central Library and other libraries have opened again.
  • Q: Can I order copies of articles or single book pages?
    • A: No copies can be made at present. Please contact us again once the Central Library has re-opened.
  • Q: Can I return books?
    • A: No, this will become possible as soon as the Central Library is open again. In the meantime, please refrain from returning them by post.

Extensions and overdue reminders

  • Q: I cannot extend the loan period of my books borrowed from the Central Library, what should I do? – Will I receive an overdue reminder?
    • A: There is no need for you to take any action as long as the Central Lbrary is closed, even if you have extended the loan period seven times already. We will adjust the loan period to the end of the closure. No overdue reminders will be issued. Once the Central Library is open again, please extend the loan period of your books and journals or return them.
  • Q: Can I or do I have to extend the loan period of books borrowed from libraries not belonging to Kiel University? - Will I receive an overdue reminder?
    • A: There is no need for you to take any action as long as the Central Lbrary is closed. We will adjust the loan period to the end of the closure. No overdue reminders will be issued. Once the Central Library is open again, please return your books and journals.
  • Q: I cannot extend the loan period of books for which I have already received overdue reminders, what should I do?

Exoneration for exmatriculation purposes

  • Q: I am a student at Kiel University. Where and how do I get an exoneration confirmation?
  • Q: I am a student at a a university of applied sciences or other universities in Schleswig-Holstein Where and how do I get an exoneration confirmation?

Submission of dissertations

  • Q: How, where and when can I submit my printed archival copies for electronic publication on MACAU?
    • A: Please upload your dissertation as described in our manual and send 
      - your signed affidavit,
      - your corresponding certificate, and
      - two printed copies of your dissertation (brochure or hardcover with adhesive binding only)

      Please make sure to cite your address in doing so. Upon receipt we will issue a signed confirmation for you to submit to your deans's office.
  • Q: How, where and when can I hand in my printed dissertation?
    • A: If you are submitting printed copies only (their number depending on the faculties' requirements), please send them to:

Guided tours and trainings

  • Q: Do guided tours and trainings take place while the Central Libary is closed?
    • A: No, this will become possible as soon as the Central Library is open again.

Carrels and book trolleys

  • Q: May I obtain my working materials and books still stored in my book trolley / carrel during closure?
    • A: Please contact info@ub.uni-kiel.de citing your name, user number, carrel or book trolley and key number. We will be happy to get back in touch with you via email.
